Samsung Galaxy Player 50

What makes the Samsung Galaxy Player 50 especially appealing amongst the mist of a world of portable media players or handheld devices is that its been embroidered with the Samsung Galaxy badge – which many of you will know about due to the success of its distant cousin, the Samsung Galaxy S Android phone. While its second ‘attraction’ will no doubt be the fact that its runs on Android, a relatively cheaper alternative to Apple’s iOS if having apps is what you’re after.

Design
Starting with its looks. The Galaxy Player 50 comes only in white, similar to the iPod Touch, its main hard key is a center key which acts as the ‘Home’ button. There are volume keys and power on/off buttons on either side of the device. All of these including the body of the Galaxy Player 50 itself feel plastic and dare I say cheap. Though its lightweight, its not the sort that feels sturdy and rugged, I would not have the confidence to let this drop onto my office floor and let alone put it through a stress test.

As you can see in the side view, it is not a thin device at all, 11.08 mm to be exact. The good thing about the Galaxy Player 50 is that its an Android device, which means mini-USB port, removable battery, and upgradable external memory in the form of a microSD (up to 32GB).

HTC Flyer tablet , Android Honeycomb

The HTC Flyer will feature Google’s Android 2.4 along with HTC Sense UI, but otherwise, its spec is decent – a 1.5GHz Qualcomm processor, 1GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage, a five megapixel rear-facing camera, 1.3 megapixel front-facing camera, WiFi b/g/n, bluetooth 3.0, micro-SD card slot, HDMI-out and DLNA support.

How to Disable New Photo Viewer in Facebook

Facebook recently rolled out the new photo viewer “Theater Mode” for all the users, and like ever design change this has been annoying most of the users while some others like it. The new photo viewer in my view is really bad and the previous one was a lot better, with a cleaner look. This new ‘theater’ look is no better..

Solution

When you open a photo in the theater mode, check the URL of the photo and from end of the URL and remove “&theater“. This will display the entire album back in the old viewer.
I know this is not a permanent solution, and you will have to repeat that step every time you open a new photo. I’ll update as soon as I find a better solution

Official: Samsung Galaxy S 2 and Samsung Galaxy Tab 2

Keen to pave the way forward for their popular Galaxy series family, Samsung has now made official that the latest Galaxy S II (S 2) and Galaxy Tab II will soon be arriving.

The official spec for the new 8.49mm thick and 116g Galaxy S II Android smartphone will be a 1 GHz dual-core processor, 4.3-inch (4.27-inch) Super AMOLED WVGA display, HSPA+, WiFi 802.11b/g/n and Bluetooth 3.0 + HS (High Speed). The Galaxy S II will also have a Readers Hub, Social Hub, Games Hub, Music Hub, an eight-megapixel camera with full HD video recording, gyro sensor, mobile high-definition link allowing users to watch full HD content on TV and storage options of 16GB and 32GB.

As for its second generation Galaxy tablet, the all new Galaxy Tab II will have a 10.1-inch display (1280×800), come with Honeycomb OS, also an eight-megapixel camera, full HD video recording, audio playback and dual surround sound speakers

Sony Ericsson Xperia Play: Full specs and features, images and videos

This will likely go down as one of the greats of all-time worst kept secrets. Sony Ericsson has officially unveiled their Playstation phone, ie the Xperia Play.

You’ll probably have read of its specs and features before when it was leaked, but here’s a recall of those details. The gaming Android smartphone will be released with Android 2.3 Gingerbread, running on a 1GHz Snapdragon processor with Qualcomm Adreno 205 graphics. It will boast a decent 4-inch, 854 x 480 multi-touch LCD screen, the combination of which Sony says will provide 60 frames per second playback and manage up to 5 hours, 35 minutes of battery life in a single game session with the slide-out PlayStation Certified controller.

As you can see in the image above, the Xperia Play has a similar setup to the PSP2. Instead of analog sticks, the Play uses a touch pad, but it does have a D-Pad, action buttons and shoulder keys (L/R triggers).

Of course, let’s not forget that the Xperia Play is still a phone, it’ll be either a quad-band GSM or CDMA and EV-DO smartphone. Other multimedia features include a five-megapixel autofocus camera with LED flash, you can no doubt expect stereo speakers, bluetooth and WiFi, as well as Sony Ericsson’s Timescape overlaying UI.

Google officially reveals Android 3.0 Honeycomb logo

Earlier this week, the new honeybee logo was revealed by Phandroid through looking within the Android 3.0 Honeycomb’s SDK itself but now its been officially revealed. Named alphabetically after a tasty treat, from Cupcake and Donut to Eclair, Froyo and Gingerbread. The new glowing cybernetic bee sports blue stripes, an ethereal glow and a definite sting.

As you may be able to recall, Android 3.0 Honeycomb will be the first version of Android with features specifically designed for tablets, with new 3D effects and viewing options that take advantage of tablets’ larger screen.

News: Sony unveils Playstation NGP, PSP 2 – boasts WiFi and 3G

NGP? You read that right – the Sony “Next generation portable” is supposedly what the new successor to the PSP will be codenamed. Announced today, and due to be released by the end of 2011, it feels as though Sony is trying to move on from the PSP label into another level.

The latest NGP will sport a unique Super Oval Design form factor, what’s more, it’ll be first portable entertainment system to feature two analog sticks, which will hopefully enable a wider range of game genres.
The new PSP NGP will boast both 3G and WiFi connectivity, a five-inch multi-touch OLED display and runs on an ARM Cortex-A9 core CPU. The new portable playstation system also incorporates a unique multi-touch pad on the rear, and together with the front touch display, NGP offers new game play allowing users to interact directly with games in three dimension-like motion, through “touch, grab, trace, push and pull” moves of the fingers.
NGP adopts a new game medium, a small flash memory based card, dedicated for NGP software titles. Taking advantage of the flash memory feature, this innovative card can store the full software titles plus add-on game content or the game save data directly on to the card. By adopting flash memory based card, SCE will be able to provide game cards with higher capacity in the future, allowing developers to store more game data to deliver rich and immersive games.
NGP will also come equipped with two cameras on its front and rear, as well as three motion sensors, gyroscope, accelerometer and electronic compass – the same as the Playstation Move, all of which are designed to enable users to enjoy the world of entertainment that is linked with real life experiences.
